Social Media - A Revolution in The Offing?

Google+

The Young Social Media Upstart

OK, I'm confused! Is it the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning, or just business as usual?

Now if I were a betting man, I'd be prepared to put money on the fact that you are one of the seven hundred or so million Facebook users that inhabit our planet. But at the moment, the media is full of stories about the demise of Facebook; it's old hat, dead, or at least dying. Now whether you subscribe to that notion or not, it can't have escaped your attention that there are a number of other social media sites out there that are all vying for your attention. And of all the upstarts who would steal the Facebook crown, Google+, the newest social media entrant is undoubtedly coveting that prize. As I write this, the newcomer is only available to join by invitation, which for those of you who remember, is the same approach Google took when it introduced Gmail. In other words, exclusivity creates interest, or at least that's the story according to Google. So, today we're going to look at Google+ and in the next article we'll examine the credentials of the other leading contenders and see what they have to offer that's different.

Google+

What is Google+? Well, that's a good question and until the media frenzy of the past week or so, one that you would have been forgiven for asking. It's been developed under the codename Emerald Sea, and essentially is Google's latest go at creating a social network. You may remember Buzz, which was Google's previous attempt. Oh, and then was Wave before that. But let's not dwell on the past. According to Google, the existing social media sites (I wonder who they could be talking about here) just don't cut the mustard and that's why it's been forced to develop and launch it's own version. If you go to Google's official blog you'll find this fascinating insight into the logic they apparently employed to justify their multi million Dollar development of Google+:

"Today, the connections between people increasingly happen online. Yet the subtlety and substance of real-world interactions are lost in the rigidness of our online tools."

"In this basic, human way, online sharing is awkward. Even broken. And we aim to fix it."

OK, got that? Well, the more cynical amongst us might suggest an alternative theory; Google realised that a massive advertising revenue stream was passing it by and so jumped into the sea of social media and are now busily swimming after it.

But, aside from Google's motivation, the arrival of a new and powerfully packed social media stream, can't be too bad an idea, can it? Now, I haven't seen Google+, as I'm still awaiting my invite, but it's a fair assumption that they'll have looked at all the existing platforms out there and come up with something that incorporates the best of the rest and then added a few twists of their own. After all, with the development budget that they must have had at their disposal, the Google+ developers would want shooting if they produced anything less.

So, stay tuned for more information on this contender and keep an eye out for part two of our social media series.

How Do Promotional & Coupon Codes Work?

Most people are familiar with the concept of cutting out a promotional coupon from a magazine or newspaper and then presenting it at a shop and saving money. But did you know the same situation frequently occurs on the internet as well? You might have already come across them; have you ever stood in line at an event or been seated at a restaurant and seen other people with printed coupons and wondered how they'd gotten them? Well, there's a good chance they were using a printed voucher from us here at Mr Couponcodes.

The next time you're buying something online, take a look at the checkout page; if you see, "enter the voucher or gift certificate here", then you've found an online store who uses coupon codes. And once you start looking, you'll soon notice them all over the web. Our advice to you in this situation is to hold off on your purchase, click on Mrcouponcodes.com and check our pages for a discount or a coupon code for the store. It may take you a few minutes more, but it'll probably save you money.

Coupons and discount codes, also known as promotional codes, e-coupons and money off coupons are offers provided by stores to promote special deals on their products or services, which they hope will increase their popularity and increase their business.

Some promotional codes and coupons are short lived which means the stores promote special discounts which are only available for a short period of time, sometimes only a few hours and may occasionally have special conditions attached. The savings on these sorts of coupon codes or deals are usually larger than the longer term discounts. Our coupon codes are updated daily, 364 days a year, plus all of our coupon codes, deals and discounts are 100% FREE.
